The US postal exam can be tough but not if you are prepared to take it. However, even if you are well-prepared, you can still make a mistake that can end up costing you a postal service job.  Here are a couple of tips that can help you pass it successfully.

Read the test front to back

As soon as you have the exam paper in front of you, read it over completely before starting. See how long the answers will be and which parts need to be completed first. This will help you determine how long it will take you to complete one section before you need to move on to the next.

Don’t overdo it

If a question has you stumped, don’t mull over it, and just move on to the next one. Answer it the best you can but don’t obsess over it or you will waste a lot of valuable time. You can always come back to it when you have covered the entire section or exam. Even if you don’t have time to do that, you can at least rest assured that you didn’t leave it completely.

Relax and breathe

If you are nervous enough to start sweating, take a moment to collect yourself before moving on. Take a small break if you feel yourself getting anxious and take deep breaths. Wiggle your toes and fingers to get that blood pumping and picture yourself somewhere that calms you. This will prevent you from panicking and will help you recall the answers to the questions in the exam. Otherwise, you may blank out and be unable to answer any of them.

Reread questions

Tricky questions may make you question how well you prepared for the exam. Whatever you do, don’t get frustrated or panic when you come across these. All you need to do is reread the question till it makes sense. Solve it in the best way you can and if you can’t attempt it, circle back to it at the end. That way you will be in a relaxed state of mind which can allow you to come up with the answers. Don’t skip too many questions though. That will only leave you with more questions to answer at a time when speed will be key.

Take breaks

Just taking a couple of minutes to shut your eyes and taking a couple of deep breaths can help you refocus. It will clear your head and refresh you for the rest of the exam questions. There is no need to rush. You aren’t in a race to complete the test first so feel free to take your time.

Taking the postal exam can be tough even if you know everything you need to know to ace it. The abovementioned tips will help you relax and answer every question without panicking. Just make sure that you answer all of them, even the ones you skip earlier.
