Basic Employee Development Training

Every postal employee who maintains or manages high technology postal system, mail processing equipment, or vehicles is offered a career development program known as the National Center for Employee Development (NCED). The training program is offered in the form of audio tele-training, live satellite broadcasts, and videos displayed on the PC. These training programs are conducted to equip the individuals with basic skills that will help them to efficiently perform their work.  

Supervisor Training Program

The supervisor training program is conducted over a period of 16 weeks. The postal service job training program combines theoretical and practical learning. The training program provides an opportunity for the individuals to gain supervisory. The program equips the employees with skills that are required for planning, organizing, and understanding the work.  

Participants of the supervisory training program are taught about the managerial skills such as team building, leadership and administration skills, communication skills, ethical conduct, and work safety. The program offers to specialize supervisory training for different functional areas including distribution, customer services, operations, and maintenance operations.

Leadership Training Program

The USPS also offers a number of advanced training programs to groom employees for the managerial position. There are three different training programs for the managerial position:

  • Advanced Leadership Program (ALP)
  • Managerial Leadership Program (MLP)
  • Executive Leadership Program (ELP)

Duration of the leadership training program for the United States Postal Service job range from 5 days to 21 days. ALP is a 21-day program, MLP is a 14-day program, while ELP is a five-day program. The training programs are offered to individuals that are nominated by an Executive and approved by the Vice President. The training program targets employees from the headquarters as well as the field offices. Only those employees are selected who have displayed eagerness and ability to perform supervisory roles.
