City Carrier Assistants

There are two city career assistants in the USPS. Although these are separate titles, their requirements are rather similar as well as the salaries for the post. These assistants collect and deliver mail from a specific area. Their job description states that they should have in-depth knowledge of various postal procedures including laws and regulation policies that should apply to that particular area. Their job requires them to take care of the public relations too.

PSE Operator

A PSE Operator prepares the mail before it is further sorted out. Their duty involves noting down the addresses from every single mail and to add that information into the software that sorts the information automatically. The computer uses this information to generate a bar code, which is then printed on the mail.

PSE Clerks

There are two types of PSE clerks that are responsible for fulfilling different duties. The PSE clerk for the mail processing position, processesboth the incoming and outgoing mails. They could do it manually or use the software for automated systems. Their job is to accurately sort a lot of the mail as quickly as possible.

The other type of PSE clerk is for the post office. Their job is to supervise a small group of clerks who work in delivering and distributing sections. They are to work for single unit small facilities. However, in the absence of the Postmaster, they are given the responsibilities of running the city delivery on rural and highway routes.

Rural Carrier Associate (RCA)

An RCA has an extremely important job to perform when it comes to postal jobs. However, this position is a non-career one. The job responsibilities for this post are similar to that of a city career assistant with the major difference being the rural setting. An RCA delivers the mail with their personal vehicle and the individual is compensated generously on a per mile basis. 

PSE Associate

The job of a PSE associate is to provide the customers with money orders and stamps. They sit at the front counter and comes under the sales, service, and distribution department. Their job description includes a number of tasks including providing sales and support. This requires them to know about the procedure, laws, and rules of the post office. It is their job to ensure that all of the mail is being sent as per the standards of the USPS.
